Four QuickBooks Desktop Applications to be Discontinued
The writing is on the wall – or rather, on the balance sheet. As of September 30, 2024, Intuit is discontinuing the sales of four primary QuickBooks applications in the US, marking the beginning of the end for these beloved desktop staples. But before you start mourning the loss of your trusty QuickBooks companion, consider this: it’s not a eulogy, but an opportunity. QuickBooks Applications to be Discontinued:
- QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus
- QuickBooks Desktop Premier Plus
- QuickBooks Desktop Mac Plus
- QuickBooks Desktop Enhanced Payroll
For the time being, existing subscribers will not be impacted and will be allowed to renew their subscriptions for these applications. The applications will continue to see updates and receive support. The timetable on officially sunsetting the software has yet to be decided, but we have seen numerous Intuit products killed in the last few years.
In May of 2023 we saw the discontinuation of updates and support for the following products:
- QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2020
- QuickBooks Desktop Premier 2020 (General Business, Contractor, Manufacturing & Wholesale, Nonprofit, Professional Services, and Retail)
- QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 20
- QuickBooks Premier Accountant Edition 2020
- QuickBooks Enterprise Accountant 20
- QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2020
As we approach May of 2025, we will see the cycle of 2022 applications receive the same death sentence:
- QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2022
- QuickBooks Desktop Premier Plus 2022 (General Business, Contractor, Manufacturing & Wholesale, Nonprofit, Professional Services, and Retail)
- QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 22
- QuickBooks Premier Accountant Edition Plus 2022
- QuickBooks Enterprise Accountant 22
- QuickBooks Desktop for Mac Plus 2022
With this cycle, we can assume that Intuit might be looking to stop production and support for all desktop applications at some point. Perhaps they are trying to push sales and the use of QuickBooks Online.
